The
Transportation Ministry promised that in 2013 their party will begin
implementing program of development of transportation facilities and
infrastructures in various regions in Indonesia. 2013 is considered as a year
of development and construction for transportation, and its fruits will be
harvested in 2014. The policy which becomes priority now is promoting railway
transport facility. With the priority, some railway development projects will
start in 2013, and will partly be completed in 2013”, said E.E. Mangindaan,
Transportation Minister.
According
to him, the main task of the Transportation Ministry for 2013 is building
connectivity, within island or inter-islands. For connectivity, railway
transportation within an island is the best mode of transportation to be
improved. Fist of all, the Transportation Ministry will complete construction
of double track project connecting Cirebon and Surabaya which will operate by
the end of 2013. And, the Transportation Ministry is currently performing
construction of double track project on the southern part so that traffic in
the northern part will not be too crowded as the north route consisting of
Bandung, Yogyakarta, Solo, Madiun, and Surabaya has always been intended for
passenger and goods transportation.
Construction
of railway transportation mode is conducted not only in Java, but also in
Sumatera, and it requires standardization. In Kalimantan, the priority is
Central and South Kalimantan where construction will seriously begin by 2014.
Signing of MoU for railway construction project in Sulawesi has been done at
the end of 2012 and will soon be realized.
For
air transportation sector, according to Bambang Susantomo, Vice Minister of
Transportation, air transportation mode is now being developed in 2012. Currently,
it is on the stage of finalization of Kuala Namu Airport in North Sumatera, and
it is scheduled to operate in January this year, and the inauguration will be
held in March 2012. Additionally, there is also Sultan Syarif Kasim II airport,
Pekan Baru which will soon be inaugurated. And, the capacity of Ngurah Rai
airport, Bali is being increased from 11 million to 18 million passengers a
year. It is set that the construction will complete in May and will operate in
June 2013. Completion of the airport project construction is expected to be on
schedule before the Asia Pacific Conference on Economic Cooperation (APEC)
Summit in October 2013.
In
2013, there are 12 new airports opened followed by seven new airports to be
operated in 2014 and 5 airports to be operated in 2015. So, there will be 24
new airports operated by 2015. For construction of the new airports (2013 - 2015),
the government has set a budget of up to Rp 1.2 trillion. In additional to the
new airports, other transportation facilities and infrastructures operated are
91 seaports across Indonesia with total construction value of Rp 3.37 trillion.
Meanwhile, for railway transportation facilities and infrastructures in
Sumatera, the Transportation Ministry will connect railway tracks in Sel Mangke
special economic zone in 2013 in additional to a study on Trans Sumatera and
Kalimantan railway construction.
And,
for the existing railway tracks to Soekarno-Hatta airport, Cengkareng, it is
set to operate in Semester I of 2014. Currently, first-stage development of
Duari - Tangerang double track has been completed by the end of 2012. Physical
construction of double track connecting Duri Jakarta and Tangerang has been
completed on December 31, 2012. Second stage construction will be started in
2013 connecting Batu Ceper station and Soekarno-Hatta airport, and it will be
followed by the third-stage, which is the construction of railway station
within Soekarno-Hatta airport. (E)
