Indonesia's demand for steel projected at 10 million tons in 2013

Indonesia's demand for steel is expected to reach 10 million tons in 2013 in line with the rising number of infrastructure projects, Industry Minister Fahmi Idris said. Domestic demand for steel reached 6 million tons in 2007 while the country's steel production ranged between 4.5 million and 5 million tons a year. To anticipate the rising demand, the government was encouraging investment in the steel industry particularly in areas producing raw materials to make steel, he said.
