Minister of Stated Enterprises, Dahlan Iskan, admitted that he was
considering establishing sharia bank with state-owned bank as the leader. This
could be done by converting banks, like BTN and BRI. “There has to be a strong
sharia bank. All state-owned banks are strong”, Dahlan said after a leadership
meeting (rapim) at Pertamina’s Head Office on Tuesday (4/2).
According to Dahlan, sharia market in Indonesia was very promising. And,
Indonesia could become a country with the biggest sharia bank in the world.
“The sharia market was growing rapidly.”
Dahlan promised that in the next three month he will seek for a concept
on how to establish the biggest sharia bank, whether it is done by
consolidating subsidiaries of state-owned sharia banks or by converting
state-owned banks to sharia banks.(E)
