IN THE NEXT DECADE, 800 HOTELS ARE NEEDED



To anticipate an increasing number of foreign and domestic tourist arrival, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy predicted that in the next decade 800 hotels with 100,000 rooms are needed. Therefore, entrepreneurs in the filed of tourism service industry, especially in the provision of hotel rooms, are encouraged to continue to develop its investment toward construction of new hotels.
               
For example, Sahid Group which is known through its hotel business continues to develop its business in a number of cities in Indonesia. Currently the number of hotels owned by Sahid Group reached 27 and by the of this year it will grow to 32 hotels. The hotels are spreading in several cities in Indonesia ranging from Java, Sumatera, to Papua.
               
Number of foreign tourist arrival to Indonesia in the first quarter of 2013 showed an increase which is very impressive. Data of central bureau of statistics (BPS) obtained o Monday (6/3) stated that cumulatively during January-April 2013, number of foreign tourist arrival reached 2.66 million visits, a 5.31 increase compared to the same period in the previous year. The increase in the number of foreign tourist visits occurred in some main entrance gates with highest percentage of increase occurring at entrance gate of Lombok International Airport, West Nusa Tenggara at 49.12%, followed by Adi Sucipto airport, Yogyakarta 41.96%; and Minangkabau airport, West Sumatera 24.31%. Meanwhile, the number of foreign tourist visits through 8 entrance points decreased, with the highest decline occurring in Adisumarmo airport, Central Java at 34.81%, and the lowest decline in Sam Ratulangi airport, North Sulawesi at 2.05%.
               
Number of foreign tourist arrival through 19 entrance points in April 2013 increased 2.67% compared to April 2012, from 589.6 thousand to 605.4 thousand visits. Compared to March 2013, the number of foreign tourist arriving through 19 entrance points decreased by 11.61%.
               
Meanwhile, the number of foreign tourist visits to Bali through Ngurah Rai airport in Aril 2013 increased 7.52% from the same month in 2012, from 222.7 thousand to 239.4 thousand visits. Compared to March 2013, the number of foreign tourist visits through Ngurah Rai airport declined 3.09%.
               
From 646.1 thousand foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in April 2013, 14.94% were of Malaysian nationally, 13.93% Singaporean nationally, 11.48% Australian nationally, 9.47% Chinese nationally, and 5.36% Japanese nationally.
               
Room Occupancy Rate (ROR) of star hotels in April 2013 in 23 provinces in Indonesia reached an average of 51.88%, down 0.01 points compared to April 2012 at 51.89%. Compared to March 2013 which is recorded at 52.20%, ROR of star hotels in April 2013 fell by 0.32 points.
               
In April 2013, the highest ROR is recorded in Central Sulawesi Province at 72.93%, followed by Southeast Sulawesi provinces at 58.64%, and DKI Jakarta 58.60%. While, the lowest ROR occurred in North Sumatera province at hotels, the highest ROR in April 2013 occurring in 5-star hotel reached 55.48%. While, the lowest ROR occurring in 1-star hotel only reached 43.71%.
               
The average length of stay of foreign and Indonesia tourists at star hotels during April 2013 in 23 provinces in Indonesia reached 1.99 days, increased 0.04 days compared to the average length of stay in April 2012. Compared to March 2013, the average length of stay increased 0.01 day. In general, the average length of stay of foreign tourists in April 2013 is longer than the average length of stay of Indonesia tourists, 2.86 and 1.79 days respectively. (E)
