Bali's textile, garment imports rise to $5.9 million

Bali's textile and garment imports in the first nine months of 2007 rose to US$5.9 million from US$5.4 million a year earlier, a report said. Textile and garment imports stood at US$1.9 million in 2004 and climbed to US$9.3 million in 2005 but declined to US$9.2 million in 2006, Bank Indonesia (the central bank)'s office in Bali said in a report on Friday. It is still unclear whether the imported textiles and garments are intended to meet local needs or re-exported as Bali has so far been known as a textile and garment exporter though its textile and garment industry has been growing at slow pace since 2005.
