IN 2012 NUMBER OF INTERNATIONAL TOURIST CLIMBED BY 18.93%

            The National Bureau of Statistics (BPS) announced that number of international tourists visiting Indonesia in January 2012 reaches 652,692 people or climbs by 18.93% if compared to the same month of last year. If compared to the same month of last year. If compared to December 2011, number of international tourists in January 2012 declines by 9.92%.

         Number of international tourists arriving though 19 main gates in January 2012 climbs by 20.05% if compared to January 2011, or from 516,418 to 619,959 people. If compared to December 2011, number of foreign tourists arriving through 19 main gates declines by 8.29%.

            Meanwhile, number of international tourists arriving though Ngurah Rai airport in January 2012 climbs by 19,87% if compared to the same month of last year, from 208,337 to 248,728 people. If compared to December 2011, number of international tourists arriving through Ngurah Rai airport increases slightly by 0.56%.

          Increase in the number of international tourists in January 2012 if compared to January 2011 occurs in almost all main gates. The highest percentage occurs in Sam Ratulangi airport by 74.00%, followed by Tanggung Pinang airport by 53,76%, and Entikong airport by 41.1%. On the other hand, decline in the number of international tourist vistis occurs in 3 gates with the highest decline occurring in Sepinggan airport by 14,61%, and the lowest decline occurring in Sultan Syarif Kasim II airport by 0.28%.

         If compared to December 2011, number of international tourists arriving in Indonesia in January 2012 experiences decline due to seasonal factor where December is a peak season and January is low season. Decline in the number of international tourists occurs in a major part of arrival gates with the highest decline occurring in Sultan Syarif Kasim II airport by 34.94%, and the lowest decline occurring in Adi Sucipto airport by 2.62%. While, 3 other arrival gats experience increase in the number of international tourist visits with the highest increase occurring in Sam Ratulangi airport by 13.69%, followed by Tanjung Priok seaport by 2.48%, and Ngurah Rai airport by 0.56%.

Hotel Occupancy
          Occupancy rate (TPK) of star hotels in 20 provinces in Indonesia in January 2012 reaches averagely 51.27% or climbs by 0.80 point if compared to January 2011 by 50.47%. If compared to December 2011, TPK in January 2012 declines by 4.30 point.

       In January 2012, the highest TPK recorded is in Central Sulawesi Province at 63.73%, followed by Bali Province at 62.01%, and DI Yogyakarta Province at 57.65%. While, the lowest TPK occurs in Riau Archipelago Province at 40.54%.

         Increase of TPK in January 2012 if compared to January 2011 occurs in a major part of Tourist Destination Provinces (DTW) with the highest increase occurring in DI Yogyakarta Province by 20.25 points. While, decline in TPK in January 2012 if compared to December 2011 occurs in all DTW, except Bali, with the highest decline occurring in West Nusa Tenggara Province by 16.75 point, followed by Lampung Province by 15.76 point.

          By hotel classification, the highest TPK in January 2012 is experienced by 5-star hotels at 56.19%. While, the lowest TPK is experienced by 1-star hotels at 44.17%.

            Average length of stay of foreign and Indonesian guests at star hotels in 20 provinces in Indonesian guests at star hotels in 20 provinces in Indonesian in January 2012 reaches 2.03 days, or declines 0.10 day if compared to average length of stay in January 2011, and increases 0.10 day if compared to December 2011. Total average length of stay of foreign guests in January 2012 is higher than Indonesian guests, namely 3.00 days and 1.76 days, respectively. This condition occurs in all DTW, except Jambi, Riau Archipelago, and South Sulawesi.

            By province, it is recorded that the highest average length of stay in January 2012 occurs in Bali Province (3.09 days), and North Sulawesi (2.62 days). While, the lowest average length of stay occurs in West Sumatera Province (1.35 days).

         The highest average length of stay of foreign guests occurs in East Kalimantan Province (6.89 days), followed by North Sulawesi Province (4.17 days). While, the lowest average length of stay of foreign guests occurs in Jambi Province (1.35 days). And, the highest average length of stay of Indonesian gests occurs in West Nusa Tenggara Province (2.97 days), and the lowest occurs in West Sumatera Province (1.34 days).
